Metamorphoses is a serie of seven illustration inspired by Ovid's most famous poem.
Ovid’s “Metamorphoses” is a narrative poem, considered one of the most influential work in western culture, comprising over 250 myths linked together by the theme of metamorphosis.
The poem describes the creation and history of the world and includes many of the best known Greek myths.
Study this classic has been an occasion for me for a full-immersion into both Greek and Roman culture: a journey into the past to better understand the present.
“Metamorphoses” has inspired authors, musicians and artists in all the ages, therefore not only inspired me for the creation of my illustrations, but gave me the chance to study the work of the artists that during the centuries have faced the same challenge (Raphael, Botticelli, Caravaggio, Bernini, Goya, Picasso, Lesley Barnes, Joseph Kosuth and more)
In this way, my work is not only an interpretation of the myths, but one of their multiple metamorphoses, a little contribution for a non-stop evolution started in the 8 CE. which helps to maintain Ovid’s work alive “even unto the present time.”
The series about Metamorphoses was exposed at Cluster Illustration Fair which took place in London on 1st May 2019.
